SUMMARY:[Séminaire] La politique des visas. Filtrer les mobilités internationales en Chine et en Algérie
DESCRIPTION:(This event is hold in French) \nThis seminar is part of a series of seminars on migration management in Europe.\nThis particular session highlights the work of our colleague Juliette Dupont\, who will present her publication: La Politique des Visas. Filtrer les mobilités internationales (Edition Du Croquant\, 2025) \nDetails about the book\nFocusing on visa policy\, this book sheds new light on the sorting of foreigners: why are 90% of visa applications in China accepted\, while in Algeria\, one in two applications is refused? To understand how one nationality is privileged and another deprived of mobility\, this book draws on an unprecedented survey of the French consulates in Beijing and Algiers\, expatriate offices where bureaucracy and diplomacy intertwine. It reveals that visas act as a filter at borders\, the intensity of which varies according to the desired objective – tourist appeal in China and migration control in Algeria. On a daily basis and in the field\, agents classify applications as desirable or undesirable\, and applicants comply with\, resist or subvert these administrative obstacles. Through the visa\, this book seeks to question the production\, legitimisation and contestation of global inequalities in movement. \nRegistration\nPlease register yourself through this form. \nMedia
