[Seminar] The Gates of the Sea: Rescue and Sovereignty at Europe’s Borders

4 May @ 12:30 - 14:00

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence EUMERGENCIES is glad to welcome Luna Vives to discuss her compelling work, The Gates of the Sea: Rescue and Sovereignty at Europe’s Borders.

About Luna Vives’ presentation

In this seminar, Luna Vives proposes to rethink the EU maritime border through the lens of rescue obligations. She will argue that the tensions inherent in maritime surveillance do not just hinder operations but actually advance state territorial ambitions at sea, ultimately reshaping the political geography of our maritime spaces.
