Biography
Denis Duez is a Full Professor of Political Science and the former President of the Institute for European Studies at UCLouvain Saint-Louis Brussels.
As the coordinator of the EUMERGENCIES Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, he leads the Centre’s research into the political and constitutional implications of crisis management within and beyond the European Union’s borders. This work builds upon the foundations of the “Un-Muting Europe” (EUNMUTE project (2022-2025).
At both undergraduate and graduate levels, he delivers lectures focusing on European integration, the EU political system, comparative political regimes, and research methodology within the field of political science.
Research
His primary research interests lie in European internal security policies and the management of the EU’s external borders. Professor Duez examines border control practices and the Schengen Area through the lens of (de)regulation processes and the (de)legitimization of human mobility.
His findings feature in prominent journals, including European Security, Journal of European Integration, European Foreign Affairs Review, Politique européenne, and Droit & Société.
