Green Border Movie: screening and debate at Vendome Cinema

The EUMERGENCIES Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence from the Institute for European Studies (IEE) of UCLouvain Saint-Louis Bruxelles organized its opening cultural event with the screening of the award-winning film Green Border (2023) by Agnieszka Holland, followed by a public debate at Cinema Vendôme.

The film, which depicts the tragedy of a Syrian family trapped in the “green border” zone between Belarus and Poland, served as a powerful starting point to analyze the Rule of Law crisis through both an artistic and legal lens.

Following the screening, Prof. Cecilia Rizcallah moderated a debate focused on human rights and press freedom as indispensable pillars of democracy. We were honored to welcome three prominent voices:

  • Françoise Tulkens: Former Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights and Professor at UCLouvain.
  • Véronique Lamquin: Journalist at Le Le Soir.
  • Adriana Costa Santos: Researcher at UCLouvain Saint-Louis Bruxelles (Césir)
