On the afternoon of 24 November 2025, Teresa Cabrita, Assistant Professor of EU Law at the IEE, will deliver a guest lecture on the historical origins of the political and legal debates surrounding the creation of a European Defence Community, first proposed—and rejected—in the early 1950s.
Drawing on literature and archival research, this lecture provides historical context to current debates about a security emergency in Europe. The lecture forms part of the course Legal History of the European Union, organised by the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory for bachelor’s students at Goethe University, Frankfurt.
