[Research Seminar] Green Border

The Institute for European Studies (IEE) of UCLouvain Saint-Louis Bruxelles is hosting a specialized research seminar dedicated to the movie “Green Border” (2023). Ahead of the film screening, this seminar offers a space to discuss the political and humanitarian realities of the EU-Belarus border that inspired Agnieszka Holland’s work.
Why attend this seminar?
Beyond the screen, Green Border raises critical questions about European values. This seminar will deconstruct:
- The “Zones of Non-Law”: Understanding legal grey areas at European frontiers.
- Human Rights in Crisis: The tension between national security and international protection.
- The Sociology of Migration: The lived experience of exile and the criminalization of humanitarian aid.

- Dr. Sylwia Urbańska (University of Warsaw): Fieldwork insights on the Polish border dynamics.
- Prof. Marie-Laure Basilien-Gainche (University Jean Moulin Lyon 3): Legal perspectives on the protection of vulnerable populations.
